Sibylle Johner, cellist, b. Zurich, Switzerland. Teaching diploma, Zurich Conservatory; M.M., Drake University; D.M.A., The Juilliard School. Among Ms. Johner’s teachers have been Bernard Greenhouse, Stefan Kartman, and Harvey Shapiro. Performed in Merkin Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and BargeMusic with Damocles Trio. Produced “Música por doquier” in 2004, a year-long festival underwritten by the Spanish Ministerio, including master classes, lectures, concerts, and premieres. Summer festivals include Shandalee, Music at Grey Towers, and Music Festival of the Hamptons. Critically acclaimed recording of Turina’s complete piano trios and quartet available on Claves Records.

The Swiss Landbote wrote, “whenever her eloquent cello spoke, one would suddenly pay attention, and immediately it became clear that a true artist was at work on this instrument..” Ms. Johner taught and performed at the Summer Chamber Music Institute at Ohio Wesleyan University and at the Milwaukee Chamber Music Festival at the University of Wisconsin. Currently she is a faculty member at the Third Street Music School Settlement in NYC.
